Keep the chat, move the records
WhatsApp is good at conversation. It is where players share lifts, explain delays, celebrate goals, and keep the group social. The problem starts when the same message stream becomes the official record of who is playing, who is waiting, which teams were chosen, and who has paid. Important facts move upward and disappear as new messages arrive.
You do not need to delete the group or force everyone into a silent new channel. Keep WhatsApp for conversation and place the changing weekly facts in one shared football page. Post the link in the chat whenever action is needed. Players still begin in the familiar group, but the organiser no longer treats scrollback as a database.
